VEHARI, Feb 17: More than 20 people were injured and 50 mud houses collapsed when a heavy rain and wind storm hit the city and its surrounding areas on Monday afternoon.

The windstorm uprooted electricity and telephone poles as a result of which about 60 per cent of the area remained without power for hours.

Heavy rain which accompanied windstorm inundated various low-lying areas in the district. Various city roads were under two to three feet deep water.

In the Muslim Town and College Town, rain water entered some of the houses, creating problems for the residents.

More than 20 people, including women and children, were injured when mud houses collapsed.

The worst-hit areas included Pir Murad Seed Farm, Karampur, Luddan, Machiwal, Chaks 24-WB, 9-11WB and 39-WB.

Rain was continuing till filing of this report in the night.

A group of farmers, however, said rain was a blessing for them. It would have a good effect on the wheat crop, they added.

Meanwhile, the local Met office forecast more rain in the district in the next 24 hours.

SIALKOT: Light rain continued for the second consecutive day in Sialkot and its adjoining districts.

Cold winds blew throughout the day, making the weather pleasant.

People enjoyed pleasant weather and breeze.

GUJRANWALA: In Gujran-wala, showers on the third consecutive day on Monday forced people to stay indoors.

Rain, which started on Saturday night, continued with intervals till Monday evening, turning various low-lying areas into puddles

People faced a great deal of difficulty in moving from one place to another.
