PESHAWAR, Feb 16: Heavy rains hit most parts of the NWFP bringing chilling cold, after weeks, back on Sunday.

The Met office had recorded 8mm rain in the city till five o’clock, which continued till the filing of this report.

The rain started on Saturday evening and continued in intervals.

The minimum temperature recorded was 10 degree centigrade. 

The Met office forecast that the rain would continue till the Monday morning.

Roads and markets gave a deserted look due to the heavy rain and chilling cold. In most parts of the provincial capital mud and rainwater created problems for the pedestrians.

Some of the old city areas remained without electricity owing to the intermittent power breakdowns. The choked sewerage lines submerged some of the residential areas, littered with remains of animals, slaughtered during Eid days.

The traffic jams on the under-construction roads caused suspension of vehicular traffic for hours. The debris, accumulated due to the ongoing anti-encroachment drive in some areas, further aggravated the situation for the pedestrians.

It also rained in Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Attock, Haripur and upper hilly parts of the province.

In the Northern areas and Parachinar snowfall was also recorded.
