‘Jihadi groups exploiting public’

Published November 28, 2001

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Nov 27: Donations and relief goods in the name of Taliban are being collected and embezzled regularly, reliable sources said.

A number of camps set up by various religious and Jihadi groups still existed and were collecting relief items and cash for Taliban, though the Taliban had been disbanded, the sources stated.

They also accused Jamiat-ul-Ulma-i-Islam (JUI) Fazal group of collecting cash, clothes, medicines, grain, gold and silver ornaments for Taliban fighting in Afghanistan.

The sources alleged that the jihadi were exploiting the general public   in the name of Islam.

When asked to comment, a JUI worker in a camp at Dr Qadeer Chowk said that the donations were not specified and meant for Taliban in Afghanistan. “ We are also Taliban as we are studying in religious madrassas “, he added.
