Bandit killed in encounter

HYDERABAD, Feb 15: A bandit was killed and two of his accomplices were arrested by the Tando Mohammad Khan police after an encounter here on Friday night.

The bandit killed was identified as Mahmood Khaskheli and those arrested were Mumtaz Chandio and Nawaz Mallah.

One Kalashnikov and two rifles were recovered from the possession of the arrested bandits.

The police were chasing the bandits, who had kidnapped a trader, Haresh Kumar, and exchanged fire with them near the Moolchand forest. The trader was later recovered.

The police registered three separate FIRs.

The police claimed the bandits, involved in several cases, belonged to the gang of Yousuf Marri and Mumtaz Marri.

CHARAS RECOVERED: The Site police have recovered seven kilograms of charas near a Dargah in the Site area and arrested Malook Shah, Haji Shah and Taj Bibi.

GIRL KIDNAPPED: A teen-aged girl was kidnapped by three persons in the jurisdiction of the Hussainabad police station.

The police registered a case against Javed Baladi and two unidentified persons.

DENIAL: The Naib Nazim of Union Council No 15, Hyderabad city, Zulfiqar Ali Baloch, has categorically denied that his son, Shafqat, and his friend, Raheel, were involved in the kidnapping of a girl, Momil, daughter of Khair M. Khawar, or that she was subjected to criminal assault.

Speaking at a press conference at the local press club on Friday, he said that the fact was that the girl was not at all subjected to criminal assault and added that she had sustained injuries in an accident.

Mr Baloch said that his political rivals, whom he declined to name, taking advantage of the accident, had made a mountain out of a molehill.
