ISLAMABAD, Nov 27: President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday said that the government would prepare a relief package for the repayment of agriculture loans in the drought-hit areas of Balochistan.
The District Nazims from Balochistan, who called on the president have requested him to give some relief to the people who were not able to repay the agriculture loans due to drought in province.
The president referring to other powers bestowed on to the Nazims said that since the Nazims were empowered to control the police, they were fully responsible for the maintenance of law and order in their respective areas.
“It is your duty to ensure peace in your respective areas to make the environment conducive for investment,” he said.
The president said that the law and order had direct impact on economy. If there was peace in your district, the provinces and in the country, there would be business activity and investment.
The president emphasized that Nazims should ensure honest and appropriate use of funds at their disposal.
He said that the expenditure of your institution must be in uniformity with the projects.
Gen Musharraf asked them to discuss with him frankly the problems they were facing.
Governor Balochistan Amirul Mulk Mengal, federal ministers for interior, finance, local bodies and religious affairs, provincial minister for local government Balochistan, and other officials attended the meeting.
Later, talking to journalists, the Nazims from Balochistan said that they fully supported the government’s principled stand on the fight against terrorism.—APP
