HYDERABAD, Nov 27: A large number of SPSF (SB) activists from the Liaquat Medical University, Jamshoro, Technical College, Hyderabad, and other educational institutions of Hyderabad staged a protest demonstration outside the press club here on Tuesday against the superintendent of central jail, Hyderabad, Malik Altaf Awan, and deputy superintendent Eijaz.

Addressing the rally, Abdus Sattar Khoso, Barkat Lashari, and others accused the jail superintendent of subjecting the political prisoners, including PPP-SB leaders, Ameer Bux Umrani, Ghaffar Chandio, and others to torture.

Meanwhile, six activists of Jeay Sindh Students Federation (JSSF) led by Suriah Sindhi staged a token hunger strike outside the Hyderabad Press Club here on Tuesday.

They were protesting against the search operation launched by the authorities in central jail, Hyderabad, and alleged torture of political prisoners in jail. They demanded removal of jail superintendent.

SPYO: The Sindh People’s Youth Organisation (SB) leaders, Nadeem Qureshi, Shujat Hussain, and SPSF (SB) president Ali Gohar Chandio in a joint statement have said that on the pretext of search operation, the central jail authorities had unleashed inhuman atrocities against the Shaheed Bhutto group leaders.

They said that Ameer Bux Umrani was seriously ill and the doctors had given an advise in writing that he should be admitted to hospital but the jail superintendent even in violation of court orders had transferred him to Landhi jail in Karachi in the darkness of night.

They appealed to the human rights organisations and print media to raise their voice against the violation of fundamental human rights.

They also demanded of the Sindh Governor and the IG of Prisons to transfer Ameer Bux Umrani to the jail hospital as advised by the doctors and the court of law and take necessary action against the jail superintendent and the deputy superintendent.

JSQM: Leaders of JSQM, Shabbir Jamali and Dr. Zulfiqar Panhwar, have assailed the superintendent of Hyderabad central jail for launching a search operation in jail with the assistance of police, Rangers and Frontier Constabulary.

They said that the lives of JSQM leaders, Zafar Karejo, Sikandar Ansari and other political activists were in grave danger.

They demanded that if the jail superintendent was not removed immediately, the party would strongly protest. They said that a Punjabi superintendent had been appointed to eliminate the activists of nationalist parties.
