ISLAMABAD, Feb 11: Former prime minister and PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto has greeted the Muslims throughout the world on the eve of Eidul Azha and urged them to renew their pledge to fight against oppression, tyranny, poverty and other social evils.

In a message issued by the PPP media cell here on Tuesday, Ms Bhutto said: “Eidul Azha is celebrated by the Muslims throughout the world as a pledge to offer sacrifice in the cause of and in obedience to Allah’s will.

“Today we commemorate the supreme sacrifice offered by Hazrat Ibrahim (May Allah be pleased with him).

“And the sacrifice does not mean only martyrdom. It also means the toils and strivings of daily life.

“It is most unfortunate that the Eidul Azha this year in Pakistan is celebrated amidst growing poverty, unemployment, inflation and lawlessness which has taken away the true joy and happiness from our people. Let us also pray on this day that the night of tyranny is soon over and the people regain their fundamental civil and economic rights”

NAWAZ: PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif in a Eid message, said the sacred festival was meant to revive the Sunnah of Hazrat Ibrahim (PBUH).

“The Muslim nations are once again facing oppression and tyranny in the world. Inimical forces are confronting the Muslims. The Muslim nations, therefore, should forego mutual differences, forge unity among themselves and muster all their resources for the dissemination of the message of Islam for peace and human brotherhood.”
