Workcharged employees threaten strike

Published February 10, 2003

MIANWALI, Feb 9: Nearly 500 work-charge employees of the Public Health Engineering Department threatened on Sunday to go on a strike for non-payment of salaries for the last several months.

According to the PHED Punjab Workers Union secretary, at least 450 employees working on various water supply schemes in Mianwali were not paid salary for several months despite their persistent complaints to high-ups.

In tehsil Isakhel, some 75 work-charge employees working on 17 water supply schemes had not been given salary for the last couple of months.

More than 350 employees in Mianwali and Piplan tehsil had also been denied last couple of months’ salaries.

The workers have time and again brought the situation into Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi’s notice, but the district government turned a deaf ear to the CM’s orders.
