Dacoity bid foiled

GUJRANWALA, Feb 9: Residents of Kot Ladha village foiled a dacoity attempt on Sunday.

According to report reaching here, four armed men forced their entry into the house of expatriate Mushtaq Ahmad. They locked the inmates in a room and started collecting valuables.

Neighbours gathered outside the house when the family raised alarm. They challenged the dacoits who opened fire. The villagers caught one of the dacoits when he was fleeing.

The dacoit was handed over to police.

Meanwhile, People’s Colony police claimed on Sunday to have busted six members of two inter-district gangs of dacoits.

Looted goods and illegal arms in huge quantity were also recovered from the possession of the arrested accused.

PO ARRESTED: A proclaimed offender and the killer of a constable was arrested on Sunday by the Range police in Kathala, Mandi Bahauddin.

Police said PO Farooq had killed constable Ramzan in 1994 during a dacoity bid on resistance. A local court had already handed him down death sentence, but he escaped from police custody some two years back.

SUICIDE: A youth committed suicide in Model Town here on Sunday.

Relatives said Zulfikar Ahmad had been without a job since long. He demanded money from his parents who refused. This resulted in exchange of hot words and Zulfikar reportedly slit his throat by a sharp-edged knife. He died on the way to the civil hospital. — Correspondent
