HYDERABAD, Feb 8: The Sindh cane commissioner has directed the sugar mills to clear dues of sugarcane growers at the rate of Rs43 per 40kg.
He also asked the sugar mill managements to provide a report, containing details of growers’ dues/payments made up to Jan 30, to his office by Feb 18, failing which action would be taken against them for violation of section 16 and rule 14(2) of the Sugar Factories Control Act.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, the cane commisioner advised sugarcane growers to approach his office or respective executive district officer, agriculture, for filing complaints in case of outstanding amount against sugarcane, supplied to factories.
He said that some sugar mills had approached the Sindh High Court for granting permanent injunction and suspension of notification of the Sindh government, regarding fixation of sugarcane price at the rate of Rs43 per 40kg, which had been dismissed by the court.
He explained that as per rule of Sugar Factories Rules 1950, payments for sugarcane should be made at the purchasing centre in a week.
MIRPURKHAS: The EDO, agriculture, and additional cane commissioner, Mirpurkhas, Hidayatullah Chajro, has said that legal action will be taken against sugar mills who do not pay the quality premium and the government-fixed price of sugarcane.
He was talking to a delegation of the Sindh Sugarcane Growers Association, led by Umer Bughio, at his office here on Thursday.
The delegation members, including Sher Mohammad Wassan, Dr Yar Mohammad Janjhi, Hussain Bux Laghari and Manzoor Laghari, apprised the EDO of problems confronting sugarcane growers and submitted written complaints against sugar mills who did not pay the quality premium and the fixed price of sugarcane.
