KARACHI, Feb 7: Around 0.5 million sacrificial animals, including bulls, goats and camels, have been transported to Sohrab Goth from various parts of the country.

“We had a record entry of 255,000 cows and bulls till Feb 6 evening and a similar number of goats, sheep and camels in the market,” said an Army official posted to supervise the overall management of the market on both sides of the main highway.

Talking to APP on Friday, dealers said that more sacrificial animals were on way to the market.

Over 50 per cent of the animals have been brought from Punjab and the rest from Balochistan and upper Sindh.

The Armymen and police have been posted there for security and management of the market. The Cantonment Board of Malir has provided electricity and water to the market.

According to the dealers, the management was charging Rs275 per cattle and Rs75 on each goat.

The average cost of cows ranges from Rs20,000 to Rs150,000 and that of the goats between Rs5,000 and Rs8,000 while camel rates ranges from Rs15,000 to Rs40,000.

“Rates of the animals may come down in a day or two,” said 30-year-old Nasir, who hails from Nawabshah.

Mr Nasir said that during the last five days he had sold 50 out of the 70 goats he had brought for sale. There were also three Australian cross-breed bulls for sale, costing Rs0.5 million to Rs0.6 million.
