Today we realized that we could be a nation , in 1947 we became a state , after 62 years living together we are still a state , not a nation . This day gives us the hope that we could be one nation and slowly we will be , we just need to hold our hands together and solve our national vested problems

Happy and proud to be a pakistani . But when we see other nations who get independence after pakistan are how far and where we are? then the head is down :( :( :(

Pondering upon the traces of time, and everything we have gained and lost in these seventy years, unfortunately I find a nation which is far from the 'nationhood' realm I often looked for answer to how much I owe to this land? How can I pay back in return? The answer to this lay in the words of our great leader, Mohammed Ali Jinnah

Purpose for which pakistan as was created is no more relevant today When Bangladesh is a seprate Nation for muslim and India Has more Muslim than any Saoth Asian State then pakistan is not at all separate home land for Muslim in south asia. Actually in 1947 Nation was not divided Muslims are divided. Any way Its a past .Presntly Pakistan should work to get his house in order wiping out militancy so that it could become a safe land of its citizen . Leaders of Pak should work seriously to stop pak becoming another Iraq or Afganistan rather than planning to destablize your neighbour India and Afganistan

Every 23rd March comes with its usual flag waving, loud motorcycles with silencer removes, general breakdown of civic sense, look at all the chaos on the streets! Proud Pakistanis yes, but stopping at a street light no! Every 23rd March should be a reminder of how far we are from the circumstances of 1940. While we are proud to have established an independent nation, our general disdain towards actually contributing towards its betterment is shocking! Sadly, every 23rd March becomes a literal manifestation of this reality. It is sad to see this day reduced to flag waving, anti-India mongering, loud music or general apathy with the nations affairs. If only people would put in the same amount of effort into working hard, willfully paying their taxes, civic sense and abiding by a law, then maybe there would actually be something to celebrate on future 23rd March's.

Its a Day we should realize about our responsiblities to care about those who sacrificed their lives during building a country for us. We are the nation as one and should forget our seperate identities. Long live Pakistan. Pakisan Zindabad. Izhar Ali Dubai

Its historic day in the history when our forefathers lay down the foundation stone for our country Pakistan, and on this day, it was promised that a new land will ensure the rights of people over their resources, land, language, culture and heritage. The sovereign states of Pakistan were promised in that Pakistan Resolution. The respective states in that time agreed to build a new land for their future generation. The sad or worse Part is total break up of promises done in this resolution. The over centralization, dictatorship and pro Mullah-ism have harmed not only the identity of our nation but created more fissures among people of Pakistan. The old Pakistan is no more, Bengal is now Bangladesh. This is high time for us to return to Pakistan resolution which promises full provincial autonomy because this is only way ahead otherwise there is not any end to sufferings.

It brings back the memories of Quaid e Azam, Mohtarma Fatime Jinnah, Liaquat Ali Khan and several other prominent leaders. It also reminds us how difficult times have been seen by our forefathers to make Pakistan a reality. I am sure that they must have expected a lot from the later generations but it is sad to note that we have not been upto their expectations. But we can say that we did'nt cause all this chaos in our dear motherland. we did what we could to make ourselves a good member of our society but alas the society is suffering so much. This was a tough day in our history. A country that was formed from areas in South Asia that were Muslim majority with a secular goal in mind was hijacked and made into an Islamic republic and that was the end of the beginning. Today we are divided across linguistic lines, across divisions within Islam and across how we ought to practice it. This is NOT what the Quaid ordered. In that context, this was the beginning of a dream that had a shot but got quagmired in internal and external conflicts.

Such days are also for introspection, Pakistan is a young nation, and Pakistan like any nation will have to go through its share of turmoil to finally emerge as a successful and a stable state. What is also required is good leadership and a whole lot of tough decisions. Pakistan need to concentrate on education, health, and most empowerment of masses and specially women. (You will agree with me that, If the woman of a house is strong and wise, the entire house flourishes). India and Pakistan are like two unhappy (warring) brothers who were earlier in a joint family, but separated now, with some pending unresolved issues like Kashmir. I see nothing wrong if the brothers go their own way, flourishes and find peace, but it is foolish to loose everything to bleed each other for vengeance. An Army feeds on wars, hence an Army always needs some enemy to go to war with to sustain itself.

We have allowed a great dream to be just that. We forgot our commitment to make this dream a shining star in the real world that the Quaid wanted it to be. I dream that we all wake up from our long slumber and get on with it. Lets dream of harmony and tolerence.

Jeevay....Jeevay.....Pakistan..... Remember Muslims....without a homeland for muslims.....we will always be a "minority" in some one else's land... Thank Allah for OUR homeland.....in may not be perfect....but its our home/our identity/our manzil Pakistan zindabad Pakistan Paindabad

Assalamo-Alaikum. May Allah always bless the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and all Pakistanis, especially on this auspicious Day. Ameen. In 1946, I was a senior student of Iqbal Memorial High school, Sialkot, and also a young member of the Muslim National Guard which was assigned to protect Quaid-e-Azam during his visit to Sialkot. In the morning time of our school assembly, it was my daily duty to recite Allama Iqbal's poetry (utho meri dunya ke ghareeboon ko jagan doo...) and the whole school used to repeat after me. Obviously, it was a very exciting time of my life and that is why I feel very sad to see that today the ordinary Pakistanis are suffering in every way and feel helpless, but the ruling classes are having good times. People are increasingly thinking of revolution as the only way out. I pray that if that happens then it is a peaceful revolution. May Allah give wisdom to the current leaders to give up their evil ways and focus on the plight of ordinary people. Ameen.

An alternate reality to all the prevailing systems then and now, presented itself in the form of Pakistan. A sanctuary created for those who removed the shackles of dependence and decided not to be independent but to be interdependent. What needs to be realized by this collection of people is that though interdependence is the most fruitful of these three stages it also the most complex. Its denizens are not bestowed upon with rights but with responsibilities. A system of values converging from the left to the right to meet at the top most point like the apex of the triangle. Let the people of this land surrounded by imaginary lines in the eyes of those who quantify realize that around them are no walls or fences. They are like the raging ocean which has its high tides and lows by the grace of much stronger powers that cannot be measured into units. Happy Pakistan Day! Yes, we will have great functions today to celebrate the Day but rarely stop to think about the state of affairs. We have gone from a nation that had pride to a nation that has none! The state of the country gets worse with each passing day while our leaders go about having consultations and chats and debates and discussions. Where is the action and where is the accountability? Our national response to everything is to take responsibility for nothing and place the blame on others, especially the "foreign elements". We have to learn to be good neighbors, good citizens, and look for the betterment of the whole rather than self. Until that, our celebration is about nothing!

In general when something performs bad, EVERYBODY starts picking up on it. On the contrary when something is performing good, EVERYBODY starts eulogizing it. This is a typical human behavior. Pakistan has been performing not so good. But we should not forget that history of nations have often depicted such stages of despair. I am not trying to justify anything. Pakistan has problems and we need to fix all of them. I think we Pakistanis need to think and rethink positively. And working hard (in our own sphere of influence), we should be able to achieve what has not been achieved till now. ONE DAY will be OUR DAY, be it 23rd or not. Secondly - Pakistan means the world to me, and this day just makes you take some time out from life and reflect about what really 23 March means! It means when our leader Mr. Jinnah showed the world his determination about this country, and took millions of Muslims in confident that yes we shall have a separate Nation. Its been 70 years. One wonders if that one Man, Mr. Jinnah could stand tall infront of the Empire and India itself, then why is it so difficult for the governments now to do so. "Pakistan had obtained its independence from the British Raj the 14th of August 1947. 23rd March was originally supposed to commemorate the adoption of the first constitution of Pakistan and thus the declaration of Pakistan as a republic. Later on when ''''General Ayub Khan abrogated the constitution and declared Martial Law. The Martial Law regime, in order to justify celebrating the national day'''', changed it to commemorate the 1940 landmark, during which All-India Muslim League passed the Lahore Resolution which later cemented the formation of a new nation in the sub-continent as Pakistan, even though it did not mention Pakistan at all. As a Gujarati businessman who lived in Mumbai I think I have much in common with Mohammad Ali Zinna to understand him.He was a true nationalist hero and worked with other Indian freedom fighters before arrival of Mahatma Gandhi from S Africa.Soon he found himself isolated in congress because of his modern living and thinking that he will not change.Muslim League found it an opportunity to gain momentum and demand for a separate country.Muslim league was never interested in freedum movement and they supported the British in world war so they were afraid of loosing if British leave.They propagated the theory that British left on their own and not because of the freedom struggle.British supported them because they helped in war and to keep Indians divided and keep British in.The Muslim league took control of Pakistan with the help of military and even today they control.This explains Pakistan's India centric policies for the last 63 years. Today after 63 years in Mumbai I see Khoja businessmen doing business on Mohammad Ali Zinna Marg. His grand son Nasli wadia a successful big Industrialist and Muslims happier and increasing more in percentage of total population. Same day 70 years back , a new day and new dawn was born paving way for a successful ,secular peace loving country called Pakistan. Now all the dream have been shattered , We need to think where we are now in terms of education , health , poverty and innovations .We need to shun the blame game and accept reality and let all of us live in peace and prosperity . No offense intended - but I doubt that Pakistan has lived up to the expectations of it's founders. In fact the only other country which was founded in recent times based on religion was Israel which by many accounts far exceeds Pakistan - that alone must make the average Pakistani uneasy.

It reminds me of horror that was let loose on the subcontinent. Hindus and Sikhs were raped and killed because there was a presumption that "Coward" Hindu cannot retaliate. It is tragic that the curse of reaction fell on innocent Muslims who thought that they could live in India. If birth of Pakistan was with an ideal that "Hindus can go to thier temples", then why was tribal army under Pakistani officer sent to rape and kill Hindus in Kashmir. Did they, or did they not, slaughter innocent just becuase they happen to be Hindus. May God, Allah, Ishwhar and whoever else may it may be up there, punish the evil ones.

I wholeheartedly agree with Iqbal Qasim saheb. Quaid never wanted a theocracy where the religion would dictate everything. Obviously, I, as any other Pakistani pray and wish it well. Bangla Desh is a seprate MUSLIM nation we might have grievence between ourselves even brother fight but did Bangla Desh merged with India?? NO you can not say that the creation of Pakistan is no more relevant.....had it not been relevant than probably most of present Bangla Desh or Pakistan would have merged in republic of India As far as Muslims in India are concerned go and read Sacher report commised by Indian Government and produced by Indian ex Chief Justice...you might get some insights into the conditions of Muslims in INDIA.... I feel very sorry for Pakistan

Let me just start by asking a question! How do you talk about sovereignty of states by chopping states in to pieces or (By creating mini states) and dividing peoples cultures, languages, and their economical well being. The states that we are living in now are the states divided by the colonial powers. The real winners on all sides of the borders are the ruling elites; feudal lords and their protectorate such as army generals so on and so forth. One must look at who are the beneficiaries of this whole set up, most certainly not the people. The economy of this military madness must be abolished and economy of the people then must be prevailed. Let there be contact between people to people across the region and let the economy be flourished, then we can get strong internally and as well as externally. Only then we can talk about sovereignty of the states, which will lead to real sovereignty of the states, regions and subsequently the continent of Asia. This country(Pakistan) has produce many great intellectuals, philosophers, scientist, from which general public had been kept in the dark. The people of the world are thriving towards social democracy and our ruler must synchronize to this musical note. Peace and Harmony for the people of the world P.S. The resolution of march 23rd, 1940 used ward "states" prior to their colonial division.

This is a sad day for Pakistan. Nothing material has been achieved out of the creation of Pakistan. What our forefathers forgot is Religion can not be a uniting factor, instead it has been a dividing factor time and again in the history of the mankind. Look at the present day Pakistan reduced to half of its size from its original and in perpetual struggle to find "who we are". Pakistan of today lacks identity. Until and unless we find that we should exist not because a more powerful neighbor exists in the eastern border, I don't see any future of Pakistan.

Pakistan was created for Muslims of India, not for Muslims of subcontinent because subcontinent also include Bhutan,Nepal and Srilanka. Those who voted for Pakistan remained in divided India, therefore Pakistan is a blunder of 1947 Two nations were created in the name of religion in 20th century (Israel and Pakistan) Both are problems for the world.

It would have been far better if we were one nation like before 1947. Independent Pakistan has succeeded only in sowing seeds of poison among its citizens to hate and destroy India. Who remembers Jinna's word today? He advocated love towards all including our Hindu citizens. Instead, today we have succeeded in reducing their numbers in our country less than 0.0001% compared to 35% at the time of Independence.

Hello All: While all of you remember 23rd Mar 1940.. how can someone forget 23rd Mar 1931.. when the proud son of Lahore.. was hanged to death by British.. he didnt know that he fought for Pakistan.. because the free state he dreamed is Pakistan today.. Yes I'm talking about Shaheed Bhagat Singh.. do celebrate this day however spare a thought about your freedom fighters as well..

A historic day and of great significance. People, from all walks of life and to whichever sect, caste, creed they belong to, must leave their personal rifts behind them to work together to make our Nation a powerful entity, the world over.

It was seredipity that brought me to your newspaper. I am pleased to note that modern day Pakistan celebrates Pakistan Day today. It is, as I understand, a date mark for a resolution made by some leaders of undivided India way back in 1940 to create a homeland for people of Islamic faith. As a person born pre independence/division of India/Pakistan origin I sincerely wish the excellent ' Aam Aadmi' of Pakistan and the readers of this newspaper peace, prosperity and progress.

It surely is a PAKISTAN DAY..........This day doesn't mean to go out for dinner or enjoy it. We should ponder and look around that is this is the same PAKISTAN DAY that our leaders thought of. Yes Pakistan Resolution was passed but do we have THE real freedom. If you feel that injustice is done to you, can you stand up and ask for justice from court??

Dear Pakistani friends, I wish the mistake of 1947 was called off. Its never too late. We South Asians have ruled the world for centuries in the past. If we want to get rid off our present laggard status, its high time we are back together. Otherwise we will always remain a third world region, trying hard to be a "strategic" ally of some superpower - be it USA, China and what not. United we stand, Divided we fall. We are falling because we are divided. Its high time - the wrong of 1947 was righted.

True dear you have all the time to go and read the report made by Govt of India, Now listen, and understand why that report was made. It was made to aware people of Muslim community in India that they need to change with time. India is democratic country, a country of free thought and equal opportunities. Population of Indian Muslims has certainly grown in India after Independence (as against Pakistan, which has been reduced to 0.0001% of total population of Pakistan). Indian constitution based on secular thoughts doesn't allow creation and allotment of opportunities basis religion. Still govt of India has made provision to economical backward classes to enjoy certain government policies now it is upto these people to take this opportunity. India is the same country who has produced people like APJ Abdul Kalam, Azim Premji. Can Pakistan name one such person with same achievements belonging to minority in Pakistan. Please don't harp the tune that Pakistan is care takes of all Muslims in the world and I think, amount of Muslim riches in India is more than Amount of Muslim Riches in Pakistan. go and check. Please try to fix your country issues than pondering on neighbors faults.

Before asking people to look at the Sachar report, you should also think that there are governments in India which checks under what conditions its minorities are living. Look how minorities are treated in Pakistan and Bangladesh. They are always under the threat of Jaziya, fear for doing prayers openly, fear following non-Muslim practices in public etc. There have Muslim presidents, Muslim Chief Justices, Muslim Chief ministers (even in states where Hindus are majority), hundreds of Muslim federal ministers and thousands of Muslim state ministers. Muslim nuclear scientists, Muslim Industrialists (Including one Indian Muslim billionaire in world top 20) etc. Prime minister Singh is not a HIndu. This clearly shows the fear that was aroused and the panic created that Muslims will have no freedom and economic , social well being has been proven to be wrong, year after year in India. With a more and more stabler and secular India and more and more weak Pakistan that we see since their independence, it is clear that partition has not served any purpose for Pakistan and also India. Hello All, We must be boastful to be Pakistani; it is our first and foremost duty to perform our responsibility each and every rank and file with dauntless determination and with consistencies to make Pakistan a robust country in the world. After established prays we should first raise our hands before our God to keep Pakistan in HIS protection and make it a citadel and hub of Ummah and the World and then prays for Parents.

Arabs are not spread over twenty countries. Everyone who speaks Arabic does not become an Arab. There are many races in the Middle besides the Arabs, for example the Kurds, Phoenicians (Syrians, Lebanese and Jordanians) the Copts, etc.

A great injustice was done to the Muslims of the subcontinent by dividing them into three parts and thus separating brother from brother. This historical injustice should be made right by allowing all Indian Muslims to move over to Pakistan and be rejoined with their brothers.

I wish Pakistan happy Pakistan day. May Allah bless people of both countries with peace, stability, ability of co-dwelling and prosperity. May people of of both countries develop more friendly ties. I wish each and every Pakistani a very happy Pakistan day....I wish Pakistan meets all the expectations sets by their founding leaders. We are also remembering our freedom fighters who sacrificed their life on 23rd March 1931 for the Independence of India "Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru" Whatever they have done for us if we give just give back 10% of that. It will change our nations. What Does Pakistan Day Mean to us and what would it mean to the next generation... Sadly the true answer to the above question is NOTHING! The average Pakistani is sleeping on March 23rd as its a public holiday. He / She will wake up around noon, watch a couple of movies Hollywood / Bollywood eat a good meal and chill all day. Looking at the enthusiasm of the parents the children will do the same or less... gone are the days when our parents would wake us up to see the marching of the Jawans - gone were the days when our grand parents would tell us the story of Pakistan and the true meaning / importance of today in our lives. Independence to us came in a golden plate therefore we can never realise the true meaning of loosing a part of us of loosing a home - and unconsciously we are heading towards disaster - but since times have changed the intensity and style of loss of independence will be different as well - as we can already see .... Think the average Pakistani needs to spend a few minutes and think on how he / she can save the sinking ship a little effort from everyone can make a big difference to Pakistan today and an even bigger difference to Pakistan Tomorrow.... We have heard that the Hindus and Sikhs started the massacre of Muslims migrating to Pakistan and in retaliation the Hindus and Sikhs going the other way were attacked by Muslims. I hope that tells you there are always two sides to a story.

To run a country require some qualities like humbleness, intelligence, devotional. Does all these qualities you find in any single leader in Pakistan. Answer is no. So Pakistan is failed state and if it really want to progress it should create good relationship with neighboring countries, see neighboring country does not want your land it wants only trade through which one can only progress.

If I may add, modern Pakistan suffers from too much focus on relegion (Islam). Focus should be on people - whatever their religion may be. Then only the country can develop.

Simple fact is today India is a safer place for Muslims than Pakistan.

Hi, It heartens me reading this blog, and the responses, that Pakistanis, aren't even proud of Pakistan. It heartens me that they don't know the meaning of Pakistan, and under what circumstances was Pakistan made. Pakistan was supposed to be an abode for the minorities of India. And why did we need Pakistan, and to answer this we might have to look at the situations after the elections of 1937 in British India. Muslim league had lost, and there was almost a whitewash congress majority in all of the provinces in India. The result of this was also grim. The varda scheme, the singing of the racist (religiously) national song for the Hindu in all state businesses, the denying of rights to Muslims in all aspect of life. Why do you think that the party that lost the elections in 1937 had such a huge following following 1940. The Muslims of India esp. were frightened of a RAM RAJ and they were frightened for their rights, and their freedoms. now lets talk about the present situation of Pakistan. Is it the fault of Jinnah, or any of the founding fathers that Pakistan is not where it should have been. It is the fault of each and every one of us that we have driven Pakistan to where it is. Blame our parents, and our grand parents, and ourselves for not serving the country in an honest manner. Almost every day we say that Pakistan has done nothing for us, we should look at ourselves... what have we done for Pakistan. Do we walk the 2 minute walk to throw our trash in the waste bins, or do we wait that extra minute to wait at the signal, or do we spend that 2 minutes it takes to vote when elections come. The answer is no for all of these for almost everyone of us. And these are just the menial duties of a citizen of any country. It is us that are corrupt , not Pakistan. We are the ones that take and give bribes, get paid or pay to kill some one and so on. So instead of blaming Pakistan it is time that we blame ourselves, and correct the faults in us, so that we can better Pakistan as a whole. i'll finish by iqbal's quote, that i feel appropriate for this situation. Sriram ji Please wake up and face the reality. Both Pakistan and India have their share of failures and success but both are alive and progressing in 2010. Thus, if Jinnah's Pakistan lost the war miserably than Gandhi's India did not win either. Pakistan and India are two separate nations/country but have common social and political failures and economic success at the same time. We need to move on from the negative mentality of past and strive together for the betterment of south asia

I agree. There are two sides to every story.

Pakistan Day reminds me of all the sacrifices made by people united for an independent country. It reminds me of how blessed we are to have a home to belong to, it reminds me to stay positive each day and believe in the resilience of Pakistani people. Last but certainly not the least, it reminds me to keep a look out for a strong leadership , based on Quaid-e- Azam's Pakistan, that our country so desperately needs.
