ISLAMABAD, Feb 4: The centre will oppose any change proposed by Sindh and Punjab governments in the police order and the local government system, the spokesman for interior ministry said on Tuesday.

Talking to Dawn, the spokesman, Iftikhar Ahmed, said the police order and the local government system were prepared by a think tank of the government after over a year of study and now it was impossible to change them. He said any change in the system would be contrary to the laws and policies of the federal government.

Referring to press reports that Sindh government wanted to revive the century-old police system and form a rangers force, the official said: “The recently implemented police order cannot be revised. However, Sindh government can be allowed to establish new rangers force to maintain law and order in the province.”

He also opposed any change in the local government system and revival of the magistrate system as demanded by the Punjab government. Responding to a query about the bomb explosion in Karachi, he said the law enforcement agencies had so far failed to find any clue to the incident.
