PESHAWAR, Feb 3: The Frontier province government has empowered assistant sub-inspectors of police to carry out investigations into an offence punishable up to three-year imprisonment.
According to an official notification issued by the Home and Tribal Affairs Department, the powers were delegated under the Police Order 2002.
The notification states: “In pursuance of the provisions contained in Article 18, clause(4) of the Police Order 2002, the government of North West Frontier Province is pleased to order that police officers not below the rank of an Assistant Sub-Inspector in Police Stations, are entrusted, with immediate effect, with the powers of investigation of offence under local and special laws as defined with imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years with or without any other punishment.”
