KUWAIT CITY, Feb 2: A US soldier was killed and three injured in a traffic accident near Doha, Qatar, according to a US army statement released Sunday in Kuwait.

“One service member died and three others were injured in a vehicle accident near Doha, Qatar at approximately 5:30 p.m. yesterday,” said the statement from the Coalition Forces Land Component Command at Camp Doha.

“All were assigned to Camp As-Sayliyah, Qatar,” it added.

The four were taken to Ammad General Hospital in Doha where one died from severe trauma to the head.

“There is nothing to indicate that these individuals were victims of an attack,” Sgt First Class David Dismukes, a US army spokesman at Camp Doha, told AFP.

“Preliminary reports say the service members were being driven by a third country national who was not injured in the incident,” Dismukes said.

“After initial treatment, the other three service members were transferred and admitted to military medical facilities at Al-Udeid Air Base, Qatar, where they are in stable condition,” the statement said. —AFP
