RAWALPINDI: The City District Government, Rawalpindi (CDGR) on Monday directed the intelligence agencies to carry out vulnerability assessments of important installations in the district to counter terrorism in elections.

The directives were given to them during a high level meeting of District Peace Committee held with District Coordination Officer (DCO) Rashid Mehmood Langrial in the chair.

The DCO was of the view that the deployment of the police and law enforcement agencies in the district was not the solution of the problem to counter terrorism.

“We as an administration has to provide secure environment to the people to use their right to vote during the election,” he said.

He said that there was a dire need to assess the vulnerable points and improve the policing to counter terrorism during the election days.

He said foolproof arrangements of security of polling stations would be ensured on the occasion of elections and sufficient police force and security personnel would be deployed at sensitive polling stations.

Similarly, contingents of Army and Rangers would also remain on call and would be deployed at selective points, he said.

The DCO also directed the town municipal administrations and assistant commissioners to ensure the implementation of code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan in letter and spirit. He also directed the officers concerned of administration to remove wall chalking done by different candidates and political parties and ensure that elections banners and posters are placed in accordance with the size announced by the ECP.

DCO directed the Administrations of all TMAs to establish control rooms and emergency response centers with a view to ensuring supply of electricity, telephone services, etc., on the polling day and if  there is any hurdle , it may be removed and  redressed immediately.
