KARACHI: Poet’s death condoled

KARACHI: Renowned poet Syed Karrar Husain Zahid Fatehpuri who died on Nov 19 after a long illness was buried on Nov 22. He was 86. He leaves behind his wife, four sons and two daughters.

The burial, attended by a large number of poets and writers, was delayed due to the late arrival of his sons from abroad.

Elderly poet Tabish Dehlavi, Pirzada Qasim and other poets and writers have condoled the death of Zahid Fatehpuri and expressed sympathy with the bereaved family.

Zahid’s two poetry collections, Naqsh-i-awwaleen, comprising his religious poetry, and Maikada-i-Khayaal, carrying his ghazals, were published years ago.

Zahid Fatehpuri, who was born in Fatehpur Haswa, a town near Allahabad, on April 24, 1916, was educated in his hometown and came over to Pakistan in 1950. He worked as an Urdu teacher in various schools.—HA
