Shifting of poultry market demanded

FAISALABAD, Jan 30: Residents of Sir Syed Town and the councillors have threatened the district administration that they will come on the road if it does not take action against the unauthorized chicken market in their locality.

In a statement here on Thursday, they said that some shopkeepers with the alleged connivance of Tehsil Municipal Administration had established the chicken market in violation of all prescribed rules and regulations.

They said poultry dealers had also established slaughter houses of chickens which were spreading various diseases. This situation was also triggering sewerage problems in the area, they said.

They alleged that they had already moved a number of applications before the TMA (City) in this regard, but to no avail.

They demanded that the DCO and District Nazim should direct the authorities concerned to stop developing unauthorized chicken market in a residential area.

Incentives: A comprehensive plan has been finalized for providing facilities and incentives to police personnel according to the motorway police package.

This was stated by Punjab IGP Syed Masood Shah while speaking to police officials and subordinates at the local Police Lines on Thursday.

He said that facilities similar to the motorway police would be provided to police employees, and free education upto B.A class would be given to their children.

He said after assuming his office he had a meeting with the chief minister during which the latter was informed about the problems being faced by police employees. In response, the chief minister immediately earmarked Rs105 million for the provision of uniforms, he said.

On the directive of the chief minister, he said a scheme was already in final stages to looking up the police barracks and residential colonies in the province. Full salary would be regularly paid with annual increments to the families of police martyrs.

Mr Masood also announced the provision of free books and uniforms to the children of police employees of Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh districts out of the police welfare fund. Ten per cent quota had been fixed for the recruitment of their children throughout the province with a view to encouraging them.

He asked the SHOs to extend courtesy to the people and give respect to them irrespective of their status.
