KARACHI, April 10: Described as devilishly dynamic, the darling of design whose textures and tones intoxicate, Chairperson of Fashion Pakistan Shamaeel Ansari, opened Day Two’s Show One of the fifth edition of Fashion Pakistan Week on Wednesday with a collection seeped in elegance and sophistication by employing the liberal use of fine silks, crushed velvet, marble prints fused with pastel floral in classic, elegant cuts and multi-layering.
The collection was beautifully carried by all the models. Kudos to the designer for single-handedly rekindling the love affair with the Orient!
Arsalan and Yahseer’s Kashmiri embroidery-inspired line featured multi-coloured needlework in azure, taupe and in pashmina with sleek silhouettes, fusing the traditional with the contemporary. Basic whites with hints of colour in both menswear and women’s wear with chic men’s jackets were especially noteworthy.
Ayesha Ibrahim showed bold chequered patterns, tie ‘n’ dye prints, short pants, maxis, floral embroideries, all reminiscent of the Rock ‘n’ Roll era of the 1960s. Purples, mustards, whites and oranges were also a part of the colour palette.
Kayseria’s designfest featured creative flair with two-tone cuts and folk funk for its Magic in Print collection.
Obaid Sheikh’s Spring/Summer celebration saw lemony and lime shades for both sexes.
Rizwanullah has earned himself the reputation of being the bad boy of fashion and he lived up to it by showing a collection in bright colours moving on to darker, grim tones in ready to wear pret with ultra minis and an abstract, edgy collection following the designers erratic design sensibilities.
Ishtiaq Afzal Khan showed cotton, linen and viol fabric enriched with Bulgarian embroideries in radiant colours and rich designs.
Sania Maskatiya’s Naqsh charted new journeys through time and space in raw silks, crepes, bright geometrics, stripes, imagery of maps, stamps, people and cities.
FP Chairperson Shamaeel Ansari gave away The Diamond Award to honour the designer with the maximum contribution in the industry to CEO Maheen Khan who thanked her, saying, “You have brought joy to my life, fashion and colour, and given me an award when all I’ve done is just play for 40 years!”
With the rather ambitious target that FPW set for itself with 15 shows on Day Two, Show Two commenced with heavyweights such as Sana Safinaz, followed by showings by Gul Ahmed, Hajra Hayat, Jafferjees, Hasina Khanani, Nauman Arfeen and FP Director Deepak Perwani.
