KARACHI, Jan 30: An election tribunal on Thursday issued notices to PPP MPA Abdul Haq Bhurt and other respondents on an application seeking to restrain him from performing his functions, including participation in the Senate polls.

The application moved by Syed Murad Ali Shah, Mr Bhurt’s PML (Q) rival in the Sindh Assembly constituency PS-20 (Naushero Feroze-II), through Advocate K. M. Nadeem, says a petition challenging the PPP candidate’s election on the basis of errors apparent on the face of the record was pending adjudication before the tribunal. It would be in the interest of justice if the MPA was restrained from exercising functions incidental or ancillary to his impugned election, particularly from participating in the Senate polls.

Justice Ghulam Rabbani of the Sindh High Court, who constitutes the election tribunal, ordered that notices on the application be issued to the MPA and other respondents by courier service and other means for Feb 6, when the main petition was due to be heard.
