KARACHI, April 8: Paceman Rizwan Akbar starred with an 11-wicket haul as Omar Associates chalked up their second straight success in the PCB Patron’s Trophy Grade-II cricket tournament when they crushed Pakistan Education Board (PEB) by nine wickets inside two days at the KRL Stadium in Rawalpindi on Monday.
Rizwan grabbed six for 48 in the first innings and five for 50 in the second to finish with excellent match figures of 11 for 98 in the Group ‘C’ fixture. Naved Khan also played a key role in his team’s success by scoring 64 from 80 balls with 10 boundaries.
Omar Associates had earlier defeated Candyland by an innings and 55 runs in the opening round at the same venue last Friday.
Humak Engineering were even more impressive as they romped to an innings and 74 runs win against Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) in the Group ‘C’ tie at the National Cricket Ground in Islamabad.
Humak Engineering, who thrashed PEB by nine wickets in the first round at the Marghazar Cricket Ground in the federal capital last Friday, owed their latest win to all-rounder Mohammad Muqaddus who returned match analysis of 11 for 124 including seven for 50 in the first innings.
Meanwhile, there was no play in the two of the three Group ‘A’ matches in Karachi following heavy rain here on Monday morning. Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) were due to resume their first innings at 184-0 in response to Saudi Cricket International’s paltry total of 147 at the NBP Sports Complex.
Similarly, the second day of action in the Pakistan Steel-Navy game at the Quaid-i-Azam Park in Steel Township was washed out. The sailors had progressed to 102-2 on Sunday after the hosts had posted 253-9 in their allotted first-innings quota of 83.The other match in the city continued saw 47 overs of play possible at the UBL Sports Complex where Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) were in sight of victory against Pakistan Customs.
After totalling 365-8 in their 83 overs on Sunday with Akbar-ur-Rehman continuing his run spree by striking 101 (192 balls, nine boundaries and one six), KESC shot out Customs for 145 after the latter had resumed at 7-2.
Following on, Customs closed at 30-0.
Zeeshan Mushtaq hammered 134 (off 155 balls, 12 fours and five sixes) helped Pakistan Television (PTV) secure a decisive first-innings lead of 181 in their Group B match against Army at the latter’s backyard. PTV amassed 385 after being 159-4 overnight. Army went to stumps at 166-3 in their second innings.
Sayid Paper Mills were poised for second win in as many matches after forcing Income Tax to follow on in the Group ‘D’ encounter at the Stags Cricket Ground in Lahore.
Rana Adnan’s unbeaten 150, his second successive century in the competition, helped Sayid Paper Mills total 367-7 on the first day. Income Tax responded by being dismissed for 202 before reaching 74-6 in their second innings. They still need 91 to make their opponents bat again.
