FAISALABAD, Jan 28: The former principal of the Government College for Women, Madina Town, has urged the Education Department to depute special auditors to check the accounts of her tenure and punish her if any irregularity or misappropriation proved.
In an application to the higher education secretary, Nargis Rafiq claimed that the record was tampered with by a vested group to implicate her in corruption cases. She alleged the EDO (colleges) had a personal enmity with her, that’s why he was active in framing charges against her pertaining to misappropriation of funds.
She claimed that before her taking over the charge, the mosque fund was deposited with the personal account of associate professor Rasheeda Aziz and she was the sole authorize person to operate the account which was against the prescribed rules. Therefore, the same was transferred in the principal’s name, she said.
Similarly, she claimed, no hanky-panky was made in the purchase of furniture, books, security funds of the library, college canteen, badminton court, sports and other collections.
She said she was ready to face an inquiry, and it would be more appropriate if a special audit team be appointed for an audit of accounts during her tenure from December, 1999, to October, 2002.
The People’s Colony police had registered a case against Nargis and her husband, Mohammad Rafiq, on the orders of the Lahore High Court under the Hudood Ordinance. It was alleged that Rafiq had debased his maid in the official residence of the principal. Local trade bodies, religious organizations and student bodies had protested against the incident which forced the department to transfer the principal.
Now the inquiry against the principal has reportedly been finalized, while the Hudood case is still pending before the court.
