RAWALPINDI, March 23: After the bifurcation of Rawalpindi Cantinmant Board (RCB) in 2003, Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB) has finally shifted to its own building adjacent to Pakistan Secretariat-II.

The 18,000 square metre office complex was constructed at a cost of Rs47 million within two years from the funds generated by the CCB.

It will be inaugurated by Station Commander Brigadier Zaman Nasarullah Khan Niazi.

The RCB was divided in two separate organisations to facilitate the local resident and minimise the workload on the RCB which was considered as big cantonment of the sub-continent.

The areas falling on the eastern side of Benazir Bhutto Road to Flashman’s Hotel, Iftikhar Janjua Road, Maulvi Tamizzudin Road to Chungi-22, Dhamiyal Road, Bakramandi Chowk, Dhamiyal Road to the turn of Chakri Road, are called Chaklala Cantonment Board. The localities on the western side were part of the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB).

Before moving to new building , the CCB was sharing the offices of RCB and paid rent to Lansdowne Trust Library for last ten years. Due to non-availability of space, the offices of the civic body were located at different places.

Chaklala Cantonment Board Canton-ment Executive Officer Dr. Sajjad Ahmed told Dawn that the civic body would start working in new offices from Monday.

He said that all the departments had been moved to the new office.

He said that the CCB had established one window operation room to facilitate the people for registration of death, birth, house tax, building plans approval, sanitation and other related works.

Dr Sajjad Ahmed said after getting new office complex, the CCB managements would now focus on public welfare by promoting efficient service- delivery system.

Merging for what?

The concern is that if the government is thinking of cutting costs through the merger, we might even lose the functionality levels we currently have.
