SHIKARPUR, Jan 27: A seminar on “Tribal Terrorism and Role of State Machinery” was organized by the Pakistan Peoples’ Party, Lakhi taluka, at the local press club on Sunday.

Speakers, while highlighting different aspects of tribal disputes, particularly the Mahar-Jatoi feud in Shikarpur district, accused the government of encouraging tribal disputes through tribal chieftains and held the tribal chieftains responsible for the disputes.

Speakers called for improvement into functioning of administrative and judicial institutions to ensure security to the people.

They urged the people to stage protest demonstrations in front of the residences of the MNAs, the MPAs and the tribal chieftains of the district to pressure them to play their due role in resolving the tribal disputes.

They also asked the people not to vote for such politicians, who were encouraging the tribal disputes.

Speaking on the occasion, the DPO, Shikarpur, Abdul Khaliq Shaikh, expressed disappointment over non-cooperation of the tribal chieftains in averting tribal clashes and settling tribal disputes in the district.

Other speakers included Amnesty International representative Iqbal Detho, Lakhi taluka PPP chief Abdul Qadir Chachar, Agha Abdul Qayoom, Naveed Alam Abro, and Maulana Mohammad Hasan Mahar.

Meanwhile, a token hunger strike was observed by the activists of the Young Welfare Association in Lakhi Gate area here on Sunday.

They were protesting against non-cooperation of the tribal chieftains in settling the tribal disputes.

Talking to newsmen, they demanded of the chieftains of the Mahar and the Jatoi tribes and the Sindh chief minister to settle the bloody Mahar-Jatoi dispute without further delay.

Those, who observed hunger strike, included Saleem Shaikh, Naqeeb Mirza, Qazi Waseem, Zarif Qureshi and Fareed Buriro.
