KARACHI, April 28: The trio of seeded cueists — world champion Mohammad Asif (Pakistan), Saleh Mohammad (Afghanistan) and Karam Fatima (Syria) — together with Zhao Xintong (China) and Lim Chun Kiat (Singapore) strengthened their positions for making it to the last-16 round maintaining a clean slate in the 29th Jubilee Insurance Asian Snooker Championship at Karachi Gymkhana on Sunday.

Top seed Asif continued his winning run imposing a straight 4-0 victory over Qatar’s Mohsen A. Aziz Bukhshaisha to dominate group A. He won the duel 68-33, 86-7, 68-61, 69-45.

Afghanistan’s Saleh Mohammad, a former world No 2, overcome early deficit to post 4-1 victory over Pakistan’s Imran Shehzad to live up to his reputation in group B.

Saleh, a household name in Pakistan, came from behind to win 47-75, 77-58, 66-36, 72-63, 77-0. Imran, who made a comeback in the national circuit by reaching the final recently, completed his engagements on dismal note losing two and winning just one game. His 4-1 victory against Mongolian Enkhjargaal Enkhbaatar came in the third session which put him tall with a clearance of 132 — highest of the event so far — in the last frame. He won the match 126-0, 79-22, 78-11, 58-68, 132-6.
