Nancy’s remarks flayed

Published January 26, 2003

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan 25: The American Muslim Alliance (AMA) and the Pakistan American Democratic Forum (PADF), two leading American Muslim organizations, have criticized US ambassador Nancy Powell’s statement about Pakistan and Kashmir.

AMA chairman Dr Agha Saeed said that the statement would further erode the credibility of the United States as an honest broker for peace in South Asia. This ill-advised statement gives the impression that someone is trying to handle a complex problem by imposing a simple-minded solution, he added.

In a strongly-worded joint statement, the AMA and PADF expressed deep disappointment over the ambassador’s statement and said it failed to uphold the supremacy of international institutions and international law.
