KARACHI: Director of Orangi Pilot Project, Parveen Rehman and seven others were killed in different incidents of violence in Karachi on Wednesday, DawnNews reported.

Rehman was targeted when she was travelling in her car near Orangi Town’s Peerabad neighbourhhod.

Initial reports suggest that unidentified gunmen opened fire by intercepting her car near Banaras flyover.

Police sources have confirmed identity of the deceased. Her body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Taking notice of the incident, Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has ordered to form a special team to probe the murder while Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has ordered a report from the IG Sindh Police and condemned the devastating incident.

Meanwhile, a body in gunny bag was recovered in Soldier Bazar and two people were shot dead in Lyari and Awami Colony.

Two more dead bodies were recovered from Kharadar and Nazimabad localities while a tortured body of a 12-year boy was found behind the bushes in Hijrat Colony.

In the meantime, police constable Gulzar, who sustained injuries in a gun attack on a police vehicle in front of the Annu Bhai Park in Nazimabad on Tuesday night, has succumbed to his wounds.

Moreover, CID police claimed to have arrested three alleged militants of banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) during a raid in Manghopir Colony. They said that suicide vests and a large quantity of explosives were also recovered from their possession.
