KARACHI, March 12: An anti-terrorism court sentenced on Tuesday an accused to life imprisonment in a kidnapping for ransom case.

Abdul Malik alias Lakhpati was found guilty of abducting Zia-ur-Rehman in September 2007 within the remit of Manghopir police station and demanding ransom for his safe release.

Judge Bashir Ahmed Khoso of ATC-I, who conducted the trial, also ordered to forfeit property of the convict.The court in its verdict ruled that despite being subjected to lengthy cross-examination, all the witnesses, including an eyewitness, remained consistent on material points and fully supported the case of the prosecution while the same was also corroborated by cell phone data and other documentary evidence.

According to the prosecution, the victim was abducted by some people on Sept 4, 2007, from his ready-mix plant of concrete situated near Hamdard University, Manghopir Road.
