PESHAWAR, March 12: Participants at a workshop on Tuesday called for citizens’ engagement at circle and sub-divisional level for mitigation of electricity-related problems by developing alternative power sector policy recommendations.

According to a statement, many people, including Mumtaz Hussein, Masoodul Hassan, and Jehanzeb Khan spoke on the occasion, who stressed preparation of policy recommendations on alternative electricity generating resources at both national and provincial level.

Representatives of civil society organisations and energy experts attended the workshop.

According to the statement, a provincial advocacy forum had been constituted which had held meetings with different stakeholders, including officials of Peshawar Electricity Supply Company and Sarhad Hydel Development Organisation.

It said that a document containing policy recommendations on alternative energy resources had already been prepared, which would be soon shared with authorities of country’s power generation companies.

The participants said that NGOs and individuals should also make efforts to find ways for overcoming the problem of electricity shortage being faced by the nation. —Bureau Report
