HYDERABAD, Jan 24: The officials of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) paid surprise visits to the offices of various cable operators in the city and Latifabad to check their systems.
Cable operators told the Bureau that the officials checked the documents of license and renewal of license fees. The officials asked those operators who had not got their licenses renewed to do it as soon as possible.
The officials verified whether the operators were airing Indian and obscene channels to their subscribers.
The officials asked the operators to work in coordination with the PEMRA and in accordance with the rules, and added that there was no need of any fear or confusion.
The operators complained that the subscribers refused to pay cable fees saying that they had no interest left as the Indian channels had been banned.
They said they had purchased cards worth Rs30,000 to Rs40,000 for the channels and if they were banned they would face a huge monetary loss.
ASSESMENT: The Directorate of Research and Assessment Sindh, Jamshoro, is launching a programme of mobile assessment system for classes I to VIII in Mirpurkhas district on Jan 27 and 28.
The director, Research and Assessment Sindh, Dr Mehboob Ali Shaikh, in a statement issued on Friday said that a team of experts would organize a brain-storming session for the members of the School Management Committee’s (SMCs), DOEs (Elementary/Secondary), ADOEs, and supervisors of Mirpurkhas district.
He said that the major objective of the meeting was to create awareness regarding the functions of the Provincial Education Assessment Centre (PEACE) and the Quality Assessment Cell (QAC).
