LAHORE, Jan 22: Long shot chestnut gelding, Sun Of Gold, strode to a game victory in the third race during the mid-week Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Wednesday.

Sun Of Gold, who was badly hooked by his regular partner in the saddle on Thursday last, to finish among also ran, was backed with confidence by the connections at four to one.

He outpacedd another long shot Tiger’s Wood by four lengths. Even-money fancied bay filly Native Force finished third, one-and-a-half lengths further back while Madam Lorina completed the frame over a length further behind.

In all, 17 ran for the event. The Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards gave stern warning to riding boy Faisal Tahir and trainer Mohammad Amin for indifferent running of the gelding.

Bay gelding Faheem Choice, whose rider jockey M. Imran was replaced by Javed Iqbal on stewards’ order at the starting  gates justified the change and won the fourth race to cause the biggest upset of the afternoon.

Faheem Choice beat Lucky Dawn by a neck at the finishing post. Fancied Free My Heart finished third by a short-head in photo-finish while Mohni Road finished fourth, a length further behind in a close finish among the quartet.

The sixth and feature event was won by Happy Boy nicely steered by jockey Shahid Rehman. Happy Boy defeated Tripple M by six lengths. The even-money favourite Eastern Bird ran third with Hot Spell fourth among a dozen runners.

Trainer Raja Tehmasab Khan, who is currently leading trainers’ statistics table, registered a good double.

He saddled Beena Roy Baby in the second race and six to one chance  Pistol Pete in the fifth and supporting event.

Three favourites obliged the backers of form when a card of six event was gone through. All races were contested over the sprinting distance of 1000 metres.
