ISLAMABAD, Nov 25: As many as one thousand prisoners from different jails of the country and some 300 prisoners from the Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi are expected to be released on the eve of Eidul Fitr after the President would announce remission on this occasion.

Sources close to the authorities preparing lists of the prisoners to be released told Dawn here on Sunday that most of the prisoners are women especially those having infants with them.

The sources said that the government was considering to release all women prisoners who had children especially infants with them in the jail on bail as was recommended by the Chief Justices Committee headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan Irshad Hassan Khan.

There are at least one hundred women prisoners in Adiala jail having children with them.

The sources also said that the remission of one month to be announced by the President by the end of the holy month of Ramazan will be only for the convicts. The under trial detainees would not be benefited from the remission, the sources said. Similarly prisoners convicted for their involvement in anti-state activities and those punished for their involvement in the terrorist activities would not be included.

Meanwhile, the total number of inmates of Adiala prison has decreased considerably during the past one month as most of foreigners who were undergoing imprisonment despite completing their jail term have been released.

The jail sources said that the total number counted on Sunday was 4448 while it was 5200 early last month.
