Old examination policy restored

GUJRANWALA, Jan 22: The old education policy of the primary and middle standard examinations was restored, it was learnt here on Wednesday.

The Punjab government had introduced the grade system up to the middle classes some six months ago. But now the annual examinations of primary classes would be held under the deputy district education officer at ‘thana markaz’ level and middle standard examinations under the district education officer at the district level, respectively.

It is learnt that all private schools would also follow the old education policy for annual examinations of primary and middle classes.

DEATH TOLL: The death toll of the collision between a bus and a wagon on the GT Road, Kamoki, on Tuesday rose to 11 on Wednesday.

The four injured who were removed to the local DHQ Hospital and Mayo Hospital, Lahore, for their critical condition, died on late Tuesday.

At least seven people, including two women, a minor boy and the wagon driver, were killed while 15 others had sustained injuries in the accident.

TRANSFERRED: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Gujranwala, controller was transferred as he was found guilty in an inquiry for changing the position of a candidate during the intermediate annual examination results.

The BISE chairman Prof Dr Muhammad Aslam Ghauri had received a complaint that Muhammad Abid Saleem Khan changed the position of a candidate. The chairman ordered an inquiry which found him guilty of the charge.

He sent the report to higher authorities for recommending an action against him and his transfer from Gujranwala BISE a few days ago. The controller has left his charge while the chairman assigned an additional charge of controller to board secretary Muhammad Ahtaram Dar.

DEATH SENTENCE: A local court on Wednesday handed down death sentence on two counts to a convict and fined Rs150,000 in a double murder case.

The judge acquitted his co-accused Ehsanullah by giving him the benefit of the doubt.

According to the prosecution, Muhammad Asif alias ASI had killed Chaudhry Fateh Muhammad and his wife Naziran Bibi in Hamidpur Khurd village, Wahando, on March 19, 1999.

BOOKED: A former SHO and muharrar of Qila Dedar Singh were booked on Wednesday by the ACE for taking a former district khidmat committee member into custody and releasing him after receiving bribe.

Rana Iftikhar was taken into custody and sent behind bars allegedly at the behest of City SP Mushtaq Ahmad. The police later released him after receiving Rs50,000 in bribe. Iftikhar reported the matter to the ACE who after an inquiry booked ex-SHO Tariq and moharrar Muhammad Ramzan.

ARREST WARRANTS: The arrest warrants for the local DHQ Hospital’s women medical officer, Dr Robina Zafar, and former SHO Abdul Razzaq were issued on Wednesday for not appearing before court in connection with their evidence in a murder case.
