DADU, Jan 22: A large number of people of the of Bhit Jabal area staged a protest demonstration outside the EDO, health, office here on Tuesday against local officials of Lasmo company.

Speaking on the occasion, Maula Bux Nohani, who led the protesters, said officials of the company’s Bhit Jabal camp were disposing of contaminated water and chemicals into a water pond which was used by the villagers for drinking purpose.

He said Lasmo had paid thousands of rupees to the Sehwan Taluka Municipal Committee to drain out this contaminated water but officials of the municipal committee, in connivance with the company’s local officials, misappropriated the money.

Later, the Executive District Officer, health, Dr Khadim Hussain Lakhair, met a delegation of the protesters and assured them he would send teams of doctors to the village and would also send a report to high officials of Lasmo company.

On this assurance, the people called off their protest.
