KARACHI, Feb 27: Thirty lawmakers belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement on Wednesday filed a joint application seeking allotment of opposition benches in the Sindh Assembly.
The fresh application was given to acting Speaker Shehla Raza because resignations of provincial ministers of the MQM were not accepted as yet.
Ms Raza also assured the MQM lawmakers that except their ministers they would be allotted opposition seats. Similarly, the issue of nomination of the leader of the opposition would also be taken into consideration tomorrow.
MQM’s Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hasan thanked the chair for the ruling on their application and recalled that they had also nominated Aamir Moin Pirzada for the slot of the leader of opposition.
The MQM has earlier nominated Syed Sardar Ahmed as the leader of the opposition in the Sindh Assembly. Since Mr Ahmed is a provincial minister and his resignation has not yet been accepted, the MQM nominated MPA Pirzada for the slot of the opposition leader.
Governor gives assent The acting speaker also announced that the Sindh governor had given assent to the Sindh Civil Servants (Amendment) Bill, 2013, the Sindh High Density Development Board (Amendment) Bill, 2011 and the Sindh (Repeal of the Sindh People’s Local Government Act, 2012 and Revival of the Sindh Local Government Ordinance, 1979) Bill, 2013.
