I WAS much disappointed to read your editorial ‘Eyes on the prize’ (Feb 22). Instead of supporting the ECP in doing its job to conduct fair elections, you have unnecessarily criticised it for purging the present legislators on account of fake degrees, dual nationalities, tax evasion, loan and utility bill defaults!

All those who got elected in the last elections after submitting fake degrees cannot be and should not be allowed to contest the next elections (even though the degree clause has now been removed).

The issue is not whether the degree clause was right, but it is that those who misdeclared the information in their nomination forms are dishonest people and thus should not be allowed to represent us, the people.

I totally disagree that the matter of fake degrees is a closed issue.

Please, can we have the rule of law in this country and stop condoning our public representatives on flimsy grounds, as we did earlier through the NRO?
