EDUCATION is a diverse activity and it has got various avenues to reach the goal. Perhaps that is why it is said that human being’s learning continues from cradle to grave. In educational institutions a variety of engagements take place, besides pursuit of academics, sports and games and educational excursions.

It is dismal to notice that these activities are losing grounds in educational institutions. One very important decaying event is holding of convocations in universities and colleges. The dwindling of this landmark juncture in educational institutions has hampered the purposeful grooming and training of students. Convocations are nothing less than annual budget or a balance sheet which reflects successes and failures of an institution.

Almost all over the world the prime educational institutions prepare for this momentous event of education throughout the year. In our country, well-reputed universities and colleges, both in the private and public sectors, hold their convocations in which they present their achievements and prospects of their institutions.

Holding of convocations is, in fact, training in disguise . Administrative sections from top to bottom show their transparency on such occasions as their efficiency and their team work results are exposed. This is a day of judgment for administration heads and patrons.

Convocation has the characteristics of bringing together both administration, faculty and students in its consummation and accomplishment. This is indeed a novel experience in a student’s life where students experience a novel interpersonal relations with other segments of institutions.

The students receiving degrees and gold medals on their brilliant performances have glowing faces on their convocation day and their parents feel overjoyed on seeing their wards coming of age. This indeed is an unforgettable day for all stakeholders.

Convocations, besides having an educational role, depict the social, economic and the erudite welcome speech by the vice-chancellor and convocation speech by the chief guest.
