KARACHI: Acting Governor Nisar Ahmed Khuhro on Friday signed the bill passed by the provincial assembly on Thursday, repealing the Sindh People’s Local Government Act, 2012 and restoring the Sindh Local Government Ordinance, 1979.
The bill was signed by Mr Khuhro at the Governor’s House after taking the charge of acting governor on Friday morning when Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad left for London.
Senior Minister Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq, Minister for Local Government Agha Siraj Durrani, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Mohammad Ayaz Soomro, Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Minister for Culture Sassui Palejo, Minister for Excise and Taxation Mukesh Kumar Chawla were present at the signing ceremony.
After signing of the new bill by the acting governor, the local government system of 1979 came into effect immediately throughout the province.
A spokesman for the Governor’s House said that Dr Ibad left the country on Friday morning for a visit. In his absence, Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro would work as the acting governor of Sindh, he said. —APP
