KARACHI: Lauding the repeal of the Sindh People’s Local Government Act, 2012 and the revival of the Sindh Local Government Ordinance, 1979 by the Sindh Assembly on Thursday, the Awami National Party said that it had opposed the law and was the first one to leave the government when it had been passed.

In a statement issued from the Mardan House here, ANP Sindh chief Senator Shahi Syed described the defunct SPLGA 2012 as the first step towards division of Sindh.

He said that it was a black and unnatural law that had to be repealed. The assembly by revoking the law had accepted that the decision taken by the ANP was correct, he added.

He said that nobody should play with sentiments of the masses of Sindh and added that be it the issues of the Kalabagh dam, dual system in local bodies in Sindh or the division of Sindh, the ANP had always highlighted sentiments of the masses of the province.

He said that the general elections were just round the corner and the people of Sindh were intelligent and that they would take correct decision while voting in the elections because they had recognised who were their true representatives.

He said that all political forces should sit together and devise a local bodies law that should be acceptable to all stakeholders.—Staff Reporter
