Ex-MNA Manj’s appeal adjourned

LAHORE, Jan 21: A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of an appeal of the former member of Narcotics Control Committee, ex-MNA Munawar Manj, against death sentence in a drug-trafficking case until Jan 26.

The court adjourned the hearing on the request of state counsel, Bilal Khan, who had sought time to prepare the case.

The convict was sentenced to death and fined one million rupees by the trial court under 9-C-CNSA.

The appeal, filed through Advocate Sardar Latif Khosa, submitted that Mr Manj had been implicated in the case and had nothing to do with the other co-accused, driver Mohammad Siddiq and gunman Abdul Sattar.

He submitted that the co-accused had admitted that they were not his companions, but he had been convicted by the trial court nonetheless.

He requested the court to set aside the conviction and acquit him of all charges.—APP
