ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday confirmed nomination of Justice Nisar Muhammad Shaikh, Justice Nadeem Akhtar and Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui as permanent judges of the Sindh High Court.

The president’s spokesperson, Senator Farhatullah Babar, said the decision was taken on the advice of Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf.

He said the parliamentary committee on appointment of judges considered the nominations received from the Judicial Commission.

The spokesperson said that the parliamentary committee unanimously confirmed the name of Justice Nisar Muhammad Shaikh for appointment as permanent judge of the SHC.

However, the committee could not take any decision regarding the remaining two nominees.

He said under clause 12 of Article 175-A, the Committee on receipt of nomination from the Commission may confirm the nominee by majority of its total membership within fourteen days failing which the nominations shall be deemed to have been confirmed.

The committee forwarded the nominations to the PM. The president, acting upon the PM’s advice, confirmed the nominees as permanent judges of the SHC.
