KARACHI: Deputy Convener of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Rabta Committee Dr Farooq Sattar warned on Monday that an attempt may be made to delay the elections through bloodshed and terrorism, DawnNews reported.

Sattar added that in order to defeat this ‘conspiracy’, all political forces would have to work together.

Speaking to media representatives at the Sindh Assembly premises, the MQM lawmaker said in order to ensure peaceful polls, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the caretaker government would have to play a proactive role.

Sattar further told the media that the MQM Rabta Committee was still in consultation over nominating names for the post of caretaker prime minister, adding that the party would inform President Asif Ali Zardari once a decision had been made.

On Karachi’s law and order situation, the MQM lawmaker said if needed, an All Parties Conference would be convened on the matter.

Sattar also expressed regret that local government elections had not been held, adding that five years had passed with his party wavering over whether it should stay in the government coalition or join the opposition.
