KARACHI, Jan 19: A taxi driver died and six others were injured in a road accident at Old Exhibition (Numaish) on Sunday.

According to reports, a speeding Mehran Coach (PE-5640) hit a taxi (JL-3024) on its right fender at the busy intersection.

The cab driver, identified as Abdul Razzak, was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he died shortly after his arrival.

Four passengers travelling in the taxi — members of the same family — received injuries. They were identified as Muhammad Irfan, his wife Kausar and their two sons, Muhammad Arif and Asaf.

The condition of the four was also stated to be serious, police said.

The coach also skidded before ramming into the taxi due to slippery conditions caused by the redesigning work being carried out there.

Police claimed to have arrested the errant driver of the coach identified as Ishfaq and impounded the vehicle.

SHOT DEAD: A sepoy of Pakistan Rangers was shot dead by bandits on resistance in Baldia Town late Saturday night.

Police said that four armed men had boarded a minibus (U-5) (JE-2092) in Baldia Town.

The four armed men started collecting cash and other valuables from the passengers at gunpoint.

As they approached Asim Abbas, the Rangers sepoy, aged 25, he tried to resist them.

They shot him and made good their escape.

Asim was resident of Abidabad, police said.

He was shifted to a hospital where he died due to profuse bleeding.

DIES OF BURNS: A young girl died of burns in her house in Korangi on Sunday.

Police said that Aysha Noor, aged 16, suffered burns while working in the kitchen in her house in Korangi J Area.
