ISLAMABAD, Feb 5: Programmes in connection with the Kashmir Solidarity Day were held on Tuesday not just in Pakistan but also in some foreign countries, including Malaysia, United Kingdom and South Korea.

At the events held abroad, the speakers expressed solidarity with the people of occupied Kashmir and condemned the brutal occupation by Indian forces.

In Kuala Lumpur, the Pakistani high commission organised a function, said a press release received here.

Speaking on the occasion, Pakistan’s Acting High Commissioner Mohammad Nadeem Khan paid tribute to Kashmiris for challenging the Indian occupation and rendering sacrifices for their cause.

He called upon the international community to help resolve the Kashmir issue for a durable peace in the region.

He condemned the civilised world for paying only lip service to the issue.

Mr Nadeem Khan underscored Pakistan’s efforts to resolve the occupied Kashmir issue.

He said: “Pakistan is committed to extending full moral, diplomatic and political support to Kashmiris till the realisation of their right to self-determination.”

Documentaries highlighting the plight of Kashmiris and their struggle for the freedom were shown during the programme.

A group of schoolchildren presented skits and tableau signifying the theme of the Kashmir Solidarity Day and highlighting the rich Kashmiri culture and traditions.

In a programme organised in the British town of Slough, political activists, community, business and religious leaders, and representatives of Kashmir Media Service expressed solidarity with the people of Kashmir.

Those attended the programme included: chairman of Al Noor Group Ishtiaq Ahmed; former chairman of Labour Party, Slough, Safdar Ali; chairman of Kashmir Centre, Brussels, Barrister Abdul Majeed Tramboo; executive director of Kashmir Centre, London, Prof Nazir Ahmed Shawl; chairman of Pakistan Welfare Association, Slough, Chaudhry Karamat Hussain; councillor commissioner Dr Z. U. Khan; councillor Suhail Munawar and former councillor Haqeeq Dar.

Speakers said a strong and stable Pakistan was a guarantee for the freedom of Kashmiris.

They described the observance of Kashmir Solidarity Day as the reiteration of Pakistan for the cause of Kashmir.

In Seoul, a function was organised at a local hotel by ‘The Friends of Kashmir Association’ with the support of Pakistani community residing in South Korea, according to a press release received here.

The function was attended by a large number of Pakistanis, Koreas and representatives of the media.

Special envoy of UN Secretary General for UNMOGIP Maj-Gen (retd) Ahn Choung Jun, Ambassador of Pakistan in Republic of Korea Shaukat Ali Mukadam and president of Pakistan Business Association Sooba Khan spoke on the occasion.

They supported the struggle of Kashmiris for their right to self-determination and condemned atrocities by Indian troops in the occupied valley.—APP
