Police ‘supporting’ outlaws

TIMERGARA, Feb 5: The traders of Khall area on Tuesday demanded action against the officials of Khall police station for what they alleged supporting outlaws.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club here, traders’ association president Akhunzada Hameedur Rahman, chairman Akhunzada Shah Zaman, vice president Haji Shah Zarin and others said local traders held a thief while looting a shop and handed him over to the police. But, they said later the police informed them that the accused had escaped from custody.

The traders said the SHO Khall Habibullah again arrested the thief after the people threatened to hold a protest demonstration.

They alleged three officials of the police station supported outlaws.

They said theft incidents were on the rise because of police inaction. They demanded immediate transfer of police officials and disciplinary action against them. —Correspondent

Help for attack victims sought

LAKKI MARWAT, Feb 5: MNA Humayun Saifullah Khan has called upon the provincial and federal governments to compensate the heirs of the civilians who lost their lives in Saturday’s attack on military camp near Naurang town.

He made the demand during a visit to Landiwah, Goraka Dilasa Shah and Mir Hazar Khanzadkhel localities on Tuesday to condole the death of deceased persons.

The lawmaker along with head of Marwat Qaumi Jirga Haji Mohammad Aslam Khan and other area elders met the relatives of deceased civilians and expressed grief with them over the tragedy. He offered Fateha for the deceased and expressed his sympathies with the members of bereaved families.

Eleven civilians, including employees of irrigation department and their family members, were killed in the attack.

Mr Saifullah and other elders prayed to Allah to rest the departed souls in eternal peace and enable the bereaved families to bear the human tragedy with patience. —Correspondent   

Oil tankers threaten protest

LAKKI MARWAT, Feb 5: The All Pakistan Oil Tankers Owners Association’s chairman Mohammad Shafi Marwat has threatened to stop oil supply to the entire province if Bannu police authorities did not take serious steps to recover the stolen diesel oil.

Talking to reporters in Serai Gambila on Tuesday, he said an oil tanker loaded with 25,000 litres of diesel had been taken away from the limits of Domel police station of Bannu district some three months ago.

He said though the Bannu police chief recovered the oil tanker with 700 litres of oil and apprehended the robbers, but the police were reluctant to apprehend the owner of the petrol pump where the remaining amount of oil was dumped. —Correspondent  

Checking illegal meat export

PESHAWAR, Feb 5: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has directed heads of all the relevant departments and law enforcement agencies to ensure that the poultry products, cattle heads and meat imported from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was transported to Afghanistan only through valid permits.

The home and tribal affairs department on Tuesday referring to an order of the Peshawar High Court directed the police, officials of Fata secretariat, commissioners, deputy commissioners, anti-corruption director to enhance the operation of vigilance and monitoring committees to maintain strict control over illegal transportation or smuggling of poultry and animals to Afghanistan except through valid documents.

The heads of all vigilance committees were directed to submit detailed progress report on daily basis or on the next date and fax it to the registrar Peshawar High Court as per order of the PHC.

The officials have also been directed to ensure that the poultry products from Punjab were checked at the border of both the provinces. —Bureau Report

PTI intra-party polls

CHARSADDA, Feb 5: Fazal Mohammad Khan group was declared winner in the intra-party election of PTI from Charsadda here on Tuesday.

Zahoor Ahmed Khan was elected as district president and Arif Zaman Ahmedzai general secretary. The group also swept the polls in the three tehsils of Charsadda. The group announced its affiliation with the Asad Qaiser group.

Flanked by the newly-elected office-bearers Zahoor Ahmed, Arif Ahmedzai, tehsil Chrasadda president Abid Khan, Shabqadar president Attaullah, and Tangi president Dr Farhad and others, Fazal Mohammad said the party central secretariat had issued notification of their success.

He said the intra-party election proved that PTI was a democratic party and believes in democratic process. He said various groups of the party participated in the lection through a democratic way. He said all party workers were united under the leadership of Imran Khan. He said the losers will be given due respect and place in party affairs. —Correspondent  

Governor condoles rain deaths

PESHAWAR, Feb 5: Governor Barrister Masood Kausar has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the loss of precious lives and material losses in torrential rains in various parts of the province. He expressed his deep sympathies with the affected families.

In a statement on Tuesday, the governor said though such a situation was beyond reach of everyone, yet he expressed the confidence that the respective organisations would be engaged in ensuring immediate relief to the affected people.

In this hour of trial, the governor said, the affected families should not feel alone rather the entire nation fully shared their grief. He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls and courage to the bereaved families to bear the irreparable losses with patience. He also prayed for early recovery of the injured.

Meanwhile, Barrister Kausar also expressed his heartfelt condolence on the sad demise of Dr Mohammad Ali Shah.—APP
