SUKKUR, Feb 4: People belonging to the Bozdar community and residents of Jindoo Bozdar village near Mirpur Mathelo staged a demonstration in front of the Ghotki SSP office in protest against the death of a member of their community who had allegedly died due to police torture.

According to sources, the village residents placed the body of 35-year-old Munir Ahmed Bozdar on a tractor and blocked the highway.

They reached the Ghotki SSP office and raised slogans against the Jarwar police.

They said that Munir had been arrested by the Jarwar police for allegedly tearing up a portrait of a political figure on a complaint of their opponents, Mohammad Essa Bozdar and Khalil Bozdar.

They alleged that the victim remained in police custody for three days during which he was tortured at the behest of Constable Noor Mohammed Kolachi at the Jarwar police station.

They claimed that after their struggle and requests, Munir was freed on Sunday night. He was complaining of severe pain and died the same night.

The protesters were demanding registration of a case against the police officials involved in the alleged torture.

The SSP of Ghotki, Irfan Baloch, spoke to the protesters and assured them of justice.

The SSP immediately suspended Constable Noor Mahammed Kolachi and sent him to the police lock-up.

The SSP issued directives for a post-mortem examination of the body of the deceased under police supervision.

He assured the protesters that if the death was proved due to the torture, a case would be registered against the policemen of the Jarwar police station responsible for the torture.

Dr Shabbir Ahmed Dayo of the Civil Hospital Ghotki in Mirpur Mathelo, who conducted the post-mortem examination of Munir’s body, told the media that samples of the body had been sent to laboratories in Larkana and Rohri and after receiving laboratory reports, the factual position regarding the death would become clear.

Meanwhile, relatives of a kidnap victim took out a rally in Thull town of Jacobabad on Monday demanding his immediate recovery.

Sajjad Ahmed Noonari was kidnapped when he was coming to Sukkur from Thull some 12 days back.

His relative took out the rally from main bazaar and marched towards the Thull Press Club.

They told reporters that police had not taken any action to recover the kidnap victim and due to their indifferent attitude unrest prevailed among family members and relatives.

They demanded the top police authorities to issue directives to the Thull police for recovery of the kidnap victim immediately.
