Glasgow’s Jamie Burnett beat Hong Kong’s Marcu Fu 5-4 and Liverpool’s Rod Lawler edged out Dominic Dale by the same score.

Six times world champion Steve Davis, who has recently become a poker addict, beat Sean Storey 5-2 to set up a tied with Stephen Lee in Dublin.

Grimsby’s Storey pinched the first frame on the pink then Davis took the next three with a top break of 40. A run of 53, allowed Storey to pull back 3-2. But Davis finally sealed the match by winning the next two frame with a 31 clearance in the final frame. The LG champion Chris Small is also bidding for a top 16 place and helped his cause with a 5-4 defeat of Mike Dunn. The Edinburgh man was down 3-0 but took four frames in row with breaks of 74 and 50 to clinch the match.

Dave Harold set up a match with Ken Doherty by comfortably beating Bournemouth’s Paul Wykes 5-1.
