CLEVELAND (Ohio), Jan 18: Mark McCormack, once dubbed the most powerful man in sport, is in hospital after suffering a heart attack, his International Management Group (IMG) company said on its website.

“He had immediate medical attention and his condition has stabilised,” said the IMG report.

“Mr McCormack’s family is with him and it is hoped that their privacy will be respected during this time.”

McCormack, 72, is the founder, chairman and CEO of IMG, the company widely known as the world’s largest representatives for sportsmen and sportswomen.

Among IMG’s clients have been Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Rod Laver, Bjorn Borg, John McEnroe, Martina Navratilova, Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi and Serena and Venus Williams.

McCormack has been voted “Most Powerful Man in Tennis” by Tennis Magazine, “Most Powerful Man in Golf” by Golf Digest and in 1990 Sports Illustrated called him “The Most Powerful Man in Sport”.—Reuters
