PESHAWAR, Jan 18: The Federation of All Pakistan University Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) has decided to hold countrywide protest demonstrations against University Model Ordinance on Jan 22 and 29 respectively.

This was stated by president of the Peshawar University Teachers Association (Puta), Dr Arbab Afridi while talking to reporters here on Thursday.

According to him, the decision to this effect was taken in a meeting held at Karachi University on Wednesday last.

He added that representatives of all universities attended the meeting and endorsed the decision to launch a campaign against the University Model Act.

Afridi informed that on Jan 22, Puta and the teachers of University of Engineering and Technology, Islamia College and Agricultural University would hold demonstration to force the government to rescind the decision.

He said that the implementation of the act would snatch the right of education from the scions of the poor families and the education system would be given in the hands of businessmen who would placate the western powers.

The Puta chief vowed that they would continue their struggle against the wrong education policies pursued by the government.

During the meeting, Afridi stated, three resolutions were unanimously passed, in which they demanded removal of the vice- chancellors of the three universities, condemned possible attack on Iraq and rejection of MUO.

He also said that Puta had planned to organize a seminar in the first half of February to discuss the pros and cons of the Model University Act.
