CHAKWAL, Jan 28: Teachers from across the district staged a protest rally in front of Executive District Officer (EDO) Education office on Monday.

The call for protest was given by Punjab Teachers Union and Mutahida Mahaz-i- Usatza.

The teachers gathered in front of the EDO office at 11am. They were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans.

The teachers were of the view that they had been denied promotions for the last several years, adding that they could avail only one casual leave in a month.

“A civil servant can get 25 casual leaves in a year,”  President of Punab Teachers Union (Chakwal Chapter) Malik Sohail Imran told Dawn.

He said if any teacher needed more than one leave he/she had to go to the EDO instead of the head teacher.

“They have funds for all other departments but they have nothing for the teachers,” he maintained.

The teachers threatened that they would boycott classes and exams of eight and fifth grades which are about to commence if their demands were not met.

Later EDO Rao Atique Ahmed and Additional Collector Sadat Saeed assured the teachers that their demands would be accepted soon. — A Correspondent
